What is a poppet?
Poppets have been used in many cultures for many reasons. The most common and easily recognizable ones are voodoo dolls. Voodoo dolls specifically are of course part of a closed practice and off-limits to outsiders. That doesn't mean ALL poppets are off limits though. They can be very useful in many different types of magic, which I'll go over later in this post. A poppet is basically just a doll made to represent a person a spell is targeted at. They can be used in baneful magic to place a curse or hex on someone, but they can also be used in protective magic, Healing magic, To send someone good luck or good vibes, and plenty of other things. They can be made out of whatever you have on hand, whether that's fabric, felt, straw, corn husks, wood, a rock, whatever. My favorite & the one I'll be talking about the most in this post will be felt or a fabric one. |

What goes into a felt/fabric poppet?
So you'll need something that ties your poppet to your target, this is called a taglock. I talk about what a taglock is and some examples of them in this post. Whatever you choose to use will link your poppet with your target. Then I like to add crystals and herbs that correspond to whatever the spell is for. And last, I always include a piece of paper with a clearly stated, written-out intention in the present tense. for example, for a poppet I want to bring someone good luck I would write something like "(name of the target) is Fortunate in all areas of life, Good luck finds them and bad luck stays far away from them." Including your intention written out is not actually necessary, in fact, adding anything but a taglock isn't actually necessary but it does boost your intention a bit making your poppet more effective. All that's absolutely necessary is your intention, as long as you charge the poppet with your intention and make it known who the target is you can't really go wrong.

Just save the image, print it out, cut it out, and trace it onto your fabric.

A few (of the many) examples of ways to use a poppet
- As a decoy, Make a poppet to represent yourself with the intention to absorb any negative crap anyone tries to send your way, cleanse it about once a month so it doesn't get too much of a build-up.
- To send a healing spell to someone
- To send someone good luck or positive vibes
- To protect someone other than yourself, use it as a decoy that will absorb any negative crap for that person instead of yourself.
- To bind someone from doing something
- To curse or hex someone
- (NOT recommended) for a love spell
- (Not to be confused with a "love" spell) for self-love, make the poppet to represent yourself, and talk to it and take care of it as you would yourself. Sometimes physically doing things for yourself can be hard, this makes it easier.
- Just about any other spell for another person you can think of!
