How to make your own sigils

What is a sigil?

Sigils are symbols created to represent a word or phrase. They fall under "chaos magic" which encourages its practitioners to experiment and try new things. This is why you'll find so many methods for creating sigils. There is one strict rule to creating sigils, You must activate it. Other than that, it just has to feel right to you, the method, the phrase, the outcome, as long as it feels right to you it's the right way to do it. I'm sharing one method in this post but you can experiment with other methods as well or even take steps from different methods and create your own method. It's your practice, do things your way.

First, how to activate your sigil

To activate your sigil after creating it, you must destroy it. It seems counterproductive, but after you create your sigil, you can copy it into your grimoire to save it and then destroy it. You can do this by:

Drawing it on paper or a bay leaf and burning it. *Bonus* you can add corresponding herbs to the fire to boost your sigil power even more.
Writing it with chalk and letting the rain wash it away.
Drawing it in the sand for the waves to wash away.
Drawing it with a washable marker and washing it away yourself.
Write it on paper and wrap it around a corresponding crystal or stone and setting it on fire so the stone or crystal emerges from the ashes, then the stone is charged as well as the sigil. you can then draw the sigil on the stone itself or not, entirely up to you.
Draw the sigil on a river rock and activate it by smacking it against another rock. *Bonus* you can leave the rocks with sigils drawn on them out in your yard and allow them to continuously charge by the sun and moonlight.
Carve it into a candle or draw it on the candle and allow it to burn all the way down
Make the sigil out of dust/powder and blow it away
Put the sigil on paper and put it in water until the paper dissolves
Draw on food with condiments then eat it
Draw on a firework then set it off
Draw on a cigarette then smoke it
Draw it on a balloon then pop it
Put it on paper then rip it up
Write it on a dry erase board and then erase it
Write it in condensation and allow it to fade or wipe it away

There are many ways to create sigils but I'm just going to share the way I do it. It's a fairly simple method and I've been using it for a while now, with no issues. Once you create your sigil you'll need to activate it, then you can draw it, or carve it anywhere you want to.

How to do it

Step 1: write your word or phrase in the present tense. (Be as specific as possible)

Example: I am powerful

Step 2: cross out vowels & repeating letters

Example: I AM POWERFUL Becomes MPWRFL

Step 3: assign each letter a number with the chart below

Example: IMPWRFL turns into 475963

Step 4: Use the chart below to draw a line through each of the numbers starting with the first one & going in order to the last one.

Now you can take that symbol and add dots or accentuating lines to it & then your sigil is ready to activate!

This is an alternate chart you can use, sometimes I'll make sigils using both charts then choose whichever one looks better to actually activate.

Tips to boost your sigils effectiveness

Make your phrase as specific as possible. You may feel like you want to cast a broader net to get the results you want but this will actually make your sigil less effective overall. you don't want something like "I am safe", you'd rather something like " I am protected from any negative entities that wish to do me harm."
Re-using the same sigils when applicable, will charge and re-charge them making them more potent.
If you write your sigils on rocks and/or stones or something else that's weather-proof, with a weatherproof marker or paint you can leave them outside in the sun and moonlight, and rain and storms, and they'll constantly be charging.
Burning a sigil with corresponding herbs to its purpose will boost its power.
The way you destroy the sigil can also boost its power. If your sigil is for love, passion, physical and/or courage related burning it is the best method. If your sigil has to do with answers, the material world, and/or practicality wrapping it around a stone then burning it may be the best method. If it has to do with intuition, wishes, travel, and/or clarity you'll want to destroy it with air (easier said than done) you could use leaves on the ground to create the sigil and let the wind blow them away. If your sigil has to do with emotions, intuition, and/or healing you may want to use water to destroy it, write it in the sand for waves to wash away or in chalk for the rain to wash away, or any other way you can think of.
